Google Contacts API search for record based on phone number

Hi everyone,

Has anyone working with the Google Contacts/People API? It is possible to pass a phone number and determine if a record exists or not?

I'm trying to figure out if I can look up a number and either prompt that a record doesn't exist and (optionally) create one OR just prompt with details.

If anyone has a code snippet of how to integrate with the Google Contacts API I'd be very grateful. I haven't seen any docs or examples I can learn from how to do it.
